Upholstery and
bespoke cushions
Founded in 2025 by Sarah Osborn, Upholstery HQ offers upholstery and re-upholstery services across south-west London and Surrey.
Following a career in music publishing, Sarah retrained as an upholsterer at the East London Furniture Institute (formerly part of London Metropolitan University) where her work won the Margaret Johnson Memorial Prize and an Intermediate Upholstery Skills Award from the Worshipful Company of Upholders. Based at her home studio in Richmond-upon-Thames, she takes on a range of commissions for chairs, sofas, headboards, piano stools, ottomans and cushions.
Upholstery
Whatever the age or style of your furniture, it can be repaired and reupholstered to give it a new lease of life. Upon arrival at the studio, each piece is carefully assessed to provide a tailored recommendation on how to get it looking and feeling its best.
Common structural repairs and wood finishing services including French polishing, colour staining, varnishing, waxing and oiling are also available to ensure the new upholstery is presented at its very best.
If your furniture is relatively new, comfortable and in good working order, a re-cover may be all that’s needed. Ideal if the fabric is stained or because you’re ready for a new look.
Bespoke cushions
When furniture begins to show signs of its age with some visible wear and tear, a partial rebuild can be a pragmatic solution. Existing components are reused wherever possible to minimize wastage. Wood is cleaned and revived to enhance its appearance.
With so many beautiful fabrics available, a bespoke cushion making service offers the opportunity to create something truly unique. Whether for indoor or outdoor use, cushions can be made in any shape or size and finished with piping, frills or any number of decorative trims.
Cushion refilling services are also available, allowing worn foam interiors to replaced to restore armchairs and sofas to their original comfort.
Furniture that has structural issues, such as a sagging seat or a wobbly arm will likely require a full rebuild. The fabric and layers of upholstery are stripped back to the frame. Repairs are undertaken to fix structural issues and restore any wood finishes before your furniture is completely rebuilt as new.
Reconnect with your body and mind as you escape the noise of everyday life.
